Strange light, not bright,
But maybe grey today.
Until that is, there comes along
The boldness of winter sunset.
Golden yellow, brighter than mellow,
Or amber, orange, growing deeper.
Sometimes there is stunning pink.
I think the Master enjoys colour!
Whatever the weather He may choose
To use the attraction of colour,
To astound us, amaze us,
Stop us in our tracks to explore,
And reflect more and more
Where exactly beauty emanates from.
Probably we expect clouds of grey
As a majority on a winter’s day.
But God’s display is surprising,
Comprising of many shades God has made
For our enjoyment of the moment.
It could be dismal, drab, sad almost
To be faced with sombre grey each day.
But our Master Creator knows this.
So as thoughtful and generous as ever He is,
He comes to save us by the showy glow,
Of the winter sunset sky in splendour.
On the ground crocus, snowdrops and aconites peep through.
Determined to do what they were designed to do,
Making a colourful carpet patterned purple and yellow a-glow,
Surely the glory of late winter on show below.
Yet, look up above at the winter sunset sky,
And by and by rejoice in the vibrancy of its richest colours.
O Lord, the winter sunset sky can be sheer joy to behold in all its richness of colours, a sure glimpse of majestic splendour, thank You. Amen.
